RE: bunk slipping

Did you look in the users manual? When all else fails call the manufacturer. That was a big issue with us. If we didn't see the weight limit obviously displayed we moved on.

RE: Water pumped out of city inlet when pump on???

Most likely the O-ring has been dislodged. Very common if folks push in on the plunger when winterizing when the line is uder pressure. I, like many others, have taken a pink shower. I followed the directions on the City Water Inlet Repair Thread and it was very helpful.

RE: Flush King

I've been using the Flush King and the Tornado for 2 seasons now and my gauge still reads 1/4 full when I know it's empty. Funny, it always used to read empty before I started using the Tornado. At least I know the tank is as clean as I can get it.

RE: I-95 south from So. Maryland

We take I95 from our home base, exit 166 in VA straight through until we get to I4 in FL. Traffic on our trip last August was pretty much non-existant. We made great time both ways. There was construction in GA on 95S from exit 50 or so to exit 29. No delays or anything like that but a very long line of jersey walls so it felt a little tight in places. We use the Flying J at exit 29 for gas before entering FL. Gas in FL was .25 - .35 higher than GA.

RE: GREAT Fridge Tech!!

Great story. I just happened to use their fault diagnosis page Labor Day weekend for an issue I was having with my fridge, it wasn't working on gas, and it led me in the direction I needed to fix the problem myself. It turned out that there was a buildup of carbon between the igniter and thermocouple preventing the igniter from sparking.

RE: Interesting 12-volt issue

I'm back from the long weekend and here's what I found.
I removed the cover from the tongue jack switch. The switch is well connected and there isn't any real wiring available to use to replace the switch. I did spray some contact cleaner/lube into the switch but it still sticks a little in the "on" position when raising the post. I'll just have to be conscious of this and remember to shut it off before the post raises all the way up.
Next I looked into the possible ground issue. The first ground wire I encountered was the ground for the battery. Here is what I encountered.
http://i524.photobucket.com/albums/cc329/DznyFan/Random%20Fotos/P1010026.jpg height=500 width=500
http://i524.photobucket.com/albums/cc329/DznyFan/Random%20Fotos/P1010027.jpg height=500 width=500
The ground connection was very rusted and the nut was tough to get off. I removed the battery ground from this location and moved it to the chassis ground which was behind the battery under the frame. I had previously replaced the nut, bolt and washer at this location with stainless steel. I used some dielectric grease to coat all contacts, hooked everything up and the problem was solved. The tongue jack works fine and there is no loss of 12-volt power.

RE: Interesting 12-volt issue

The only thing I did was swap out the fuse holder. The original one used a round fuse and screwed closed. It was the end of the fuse holder closest to the battery that melted. I undid the wire nut and attached a new fuse holder that uses a blade fuse. The fuse holder, old and new, are in the battery box out of the elements. The only thing I noticed different between the last time it worked and when it didn't was the operation of the switch on the jack so I guess that's my first place to look.

RE: Interesting 12-volt issue

Sounds like a bad battery.
Jerry,
I thought it might be the battery at first since it had run down somewhat between our trips. I charged it overnight before we left for Florida and I checked it a week later when we got off the cruise (it sat at Port Canaveral with the battery disconnected). The charge on the battery was still full, a little more than 13 volts, so I ruled that out. I'll be checking the switch as well as the various ground contacts. Thanks for the replies.

Interesting 12-volt issue

I ran into a little problem when we returned from our June camping trip. When I went to lower the tongue jack (UltraFab) it didn't move. I discovered the fuse holder was melted on one end. When I had previously raised the jack that day I noticed that the switch seemed to stick. I'm guessing the switch stuck on the 'on' position and the current blew the fuse (25 amp round) and melted the end of the holder. I removed the fuse holder and put the positive wire directly on the battery and the jack lowered.
Before our big trip I replaced the fuse holder with a new one using a blade fuse. I had a 30-amp fuse so I put that in the holder. Now the jack doesn't work at all. Well, let me preface that with, I had 12-volt power but as soon as I try to raise or lower the tongue all power cuts off and does not come back on. The battery is fully charged but nothing 12-volt works. If I hook the TT to the TV I can use the tongue jack no problem and the outside 12-volt light works. If I unhook the TT the 12-volt light stays on but as soon as I try to raise or lower the tongue all power cuts off and does not come back on.
I'm thinking it might be a bad negative ground at the tongue jack caused by rust. I plan on removing the tongue jack this weekend and cleaning the area but I thought I'd solicit other ideas as to the cause. I haven't had any other problems with the electrical system and I used shore and gennie power on our last trip. This only happens when I try to use the electric tongue jack.

RE: Disneyworld + renting an RV?

One option I'd like to suggest is to drive to Florida and rent an RV there. That would definitely save on the gas but still offer the opportunity to RV. Check out Camp At The Fort. The only place to camp at when visiting Disney is Ft. Wilderness. If you decided to rent from Camp At The Fort they will transport and setup the 5er on your site at Ft. Wilderness. It comes with everything but you. The cost is very reasonable and way more economical than renting an RV and driving down from MI. You can find more info and references on Camp At The Fort and all the info you ever wanted to know on camping at Ft. Wilderness from DisBoards.

RE: Who makes the best power jack in the 3500lbs rating?

I need one too best place to purchase would be ?
Check nextag.com to compare prices. Some places are:
pplmotorhomes.com
amazon.com
rvpartscenter.com
campingworld.com
I started with a Barker. It came with a busted power head. Barker sent a replacement. It worked fine for a season then the up/down switch went bad. Barker sent a replacement. I moved up to a much larger trailer and bought an UltraFab. No problems yet, going on 3rd season. DB bought his first TT in Oct. He now has the Barker.

We will be headed to the Eastern Shore next week.
Where are you headed? We were there last week and had a great time. Several torrential t'storms but everything held up well. Those big, green pine cones sure sound loud when they hit your roof after falling from 60+ feet up.

RE: TT Insurance Questions

RV insurance is an interesting topic which usually revolves around cost. Cost for RV insurance depends on seceral factors like your driving record, where you live, multiple policies, your credit score and various state/local laws. Some folks like to work with their auto/home insurer and others like insurance companies that deal with RVs/boats/etc. Below are several insurance companies or brokers that cater to the RV owner. Some places provide a quote for six months and some for a year.
Personally, I went with National Interstate Insurance Co. through the Twin Peaks agency. Looking at my policy right now. I have awning replacement, collision, other than collision, diminishing deductible, emergency vacation expense, replacement cost for personal effects, total loss replacement cost (replacement the first 5 years, cost paid after that) and vacation liability. Total premium, $272 this year. This is my fifth year with National Interstate and my second trailer. I feel confident that I have everything covered. My RV is not a vehicle so I don't insure it like one.

RE: Upgrading Expedition to Excursion

The door locks are a common Ford problem and since the dealer is going to make good on them I won't worry about going in to the fix - but there is one and it's simple and cheap to do.
I'd be very interested in this since I'm most likely going to face it in the future.

RE: Shower Sky Light

We had not used our shower, or the bathroom, since last Oct. During a trip to my BIL's house for Memorial Day weekend I noticed "stuff" in the bath tub. I soon realized that the skylight had leaked. I removed the inside concave dome and noticed what looked like stress cracks at the 4 corners of the skylight. We'd had several heave rain storms and the water flowing down the roof to the back of the TT, where the shower is, was enough to get in the cracks on he one side of the skylight. I got up on the roof and inspected the caulking and it looked like it had shrunk in a couple of spots around the skylight. I sealed the cracks in the skylight with silicone and ordered a new one. When I install it I'll be using Eternabond to seal it up.
